Mission

Healing notes is a charitable organization that creates and facilitates a network of musicians who provide their talents to bring the joy of music to healing environments and environments that need healing.

This work nurtures both mind and spirit bringing comfort and supporting community. By doing this work, musicians see themselves in their larger role as healers. In addition, the healing qualities of music are shared by both musician and listener for an increased sense of wholeness.

History
Donny Lobree was inspired by the idea of combining music and healing. He began searching for non-profits that he could support in this work. Although he found many worthwhile organizations, he never fully connected with any one of them. Finally after a couple of years of frustration, he sat in meditation and asked the question once again, “I want a healing music program I can fully embrace and support. How can I find it?” The answer he heard reflected back was, “Do it yourself. Over and out.”

And so on March 11, 2002, after having a conversation with the Children’s Hospital in Oakland, California, he took his violin into the Emergency Department and played a few tunes such as “Over the Rainbow,” “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” and “Moon River” to the children, families and staff that were present.

Healing Notes was born.

Donny received such a favorable from his debut in the Emergency Department that he slowly expanded his service to other areas. First he went into the clinic waiting rooms, then the hallways, finally into the ward areas, nurses’ stations and even the intensive care unit. Each time, he offered not a formal concert, but just a few songs to enliven the moods of those who were listening.

Since that time, Healing Notes has expanded to include other musicians and locations. Our volunteer musicians have played on 3 continents in hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, Alzheimer’s centers, cancer treatment centers and homeless shelters.
